Benevolent

Northern California artist DJ Manifest is an enigma who’s been studying not just the craft of production but the art of music for his entire life. With expertise in producing, instrumentation, engineering, emceeing there’s nothing in this timeline that Manifest can’t do.

On the other side Infamous Kaboo has been a household name for a minute at this point. With music spanning almost 15 years, he’s done his part to contribute to the Northern California Bay Area scene over the years.

Manifest and Kaboo have been connected as friends for about 20 years and now are brothers in the artistic sense with the two coming together to create music together. As we approach the back half of 2024, DJ Manifest is out on a new endeavor starting a brand new imprint called ‘Coffee and Cuts Records’. The debut of this imprint sees DJ Manifest & Kaboo teaming up for their collaborative LP Benevolent.

Kaboo’s legacy is one being built with a steady foundation of passion, knowledge and raw talent and Benevolent is only the first step.

Benevolent according to the dictionary means “well meaning and kindly.”

Kaboo embodies this definition entirely in his 10-track venture. After a few tracks introducing himself Kaboo the Hope Dealer presents us with “Diamonds” where the West Coast artist’s smooth flow instills street knowledge to the listener courtesy of his own life experiences.

In the roughly 30-minute album, Kaboo steps out of his usual lane on multiple tracks to flex his creative versatility and stretch the genre boundaries. “Time to Shine” has Kaboo harmonizing melodies, singing the hook and declaring his love over Teekos slow tempoed, yet thumping production.

The album closes out with a beautiful trio of tracks tying the project together. “Still Livin” sees Kaboo tracing his experiences back to the beginning wondering how he’s even alive but coming to the realization of his blessings. “We take pain…and we turn it into champagne/before I die…make sure that they know my name,” Kaboo says. In the finale “Never Found They Way” Rey Res piano-laced beat lays the groundwork for Kaboo to conclude his thesis statement and make his final plea to the listener.

In 10-tracks Kaboo & Manifest display a chemistry of a duo that’s been together for years while simultaneously pushing the boundaries of what an album can be, through both sound and lyrical concept
